In the comments for the last blog entry, Katie said, “… I was thinking about it, and… what about if you wrote your next entry over why you prefer Macs over PCs? I know I’d be interested in what you have to say and I’m sure other people would too!”
Here’s why I like the Mac OS:
- Easy ssh into Unix machines with OSX (big arguing point in college).
- Sad computer face instead of the blue screen of death.
Downsides of the Mac OS:
- Technically it’s more of a recycle bin than a trash can.
Okay, so maybe not the best explanation but I think this discussion has been discussed to death. Sort of like which Saturday morning cartoons used to be on in the 80s. And I still can’t drive through Colorado without thinking of the Denver the Last Dinosaur theme song. Damn you, Denver and your catchy theme song.

hey leah, get to know you when you etched your macbook pro, and i was thinking of doing that too but then i realized it’s not gonna work for me.
anyways, you still have your joost invite? (i’ve been asking this all over the place for a few months), if you do (i don’t think that is very likely) plzzzzzz send me one thank you, if you don’t, it’s okay, just add me back on twitter, i’m bphelmet @ http://twitter.com/BPhelmet

x86 all the way. No doubt about that. SH-3 and I had a thing going a few years back, but honestly that’s all in the past now.
How about PC (I’ll assume you mean Windows here) on Parallels on MacOS. Best of both worlds for most users out there, right?
Since I use neither, I have to say that FreeBSD and Linux on the desktop is the way to go if you’re really feeling nerdy this week.

Totally, though I have the french version stuck in your head..
Denver le dernier dinosaure / C’est mon ami et bien plus encore…
Theme songs in french are pretty much all I remember of childhood summers in spent in france.

I’ve been thinking about switching to a mac, only thing holding me up is another $1000. If I go to a mac I want to go with a pro and that extra $1000 is the only thing holding me back. Wondering if I should just settle with just a mac book. We’ll see.

Clintus,
it depends on whether you just want a Pro for the sake of having a Pro, or if you actually need the features. If you don’t need the ExpressCard slot or the backlit keyboard and can do with a slightly smaller screen, get a MacBook.
Of course, then you couldn’t use Lab Tick…
Cheers,

See, I use a Mac because my whole robotics lab uses em. =D

Yey!! Denver!!

I don’t actually use Macs, but I like Mac because it’s part of my name… kind of vain, I guess, but it works for me.

Users “without a clue” use Windoze. Geeks, on the other hand, who love to burn up incredible amounts of time getting stuff to work, use Linux. But cool people use Macs.

SSH is readily available on Windows with the freeware putty program available from http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/.

Tom: Good to see your use of quotes, or I might have thought you were serious. I am sure everyone here knows that a well configured version of Windows XP + Cygwin + VMWare trumps all. And yes, Apple, thank you very much for i386.
Tom
There is no such thing as a “well-configured” version of XP.
You can’t configure a virus.

I like Macs and have been using them for ages, but I wish my Macbook had a 2 button mouse. wtf? also, now that they’re on x86 i can just switch between osx and windows and linux (currently Kubuntu). can’t go wrong.
p.s. i would have totally voted for you on valleywag had i known about the poll. you’re pretty freakin’ cute!
