Hey Leah. There is a time for everything, no? Perhaps being overly serious helped get you where you are today, business and all. Though distant family and heartaches certainly suck the bubbly out of life! :-( It's good to see you are on your feet, ready to take on a new year. I wonder... being easy going can be passive, it doesn't quite do justice to your entire resolution. Encouraging others does take a little effort, a willingness to look outside ourselves. It nice to see all the people offering encouraging words to you, and the great attitude you have towards life. All the best in the new year... & happy Django hacking :-)

Interesting...my New Year's resolution was to start taking myself more seriously, and in effect, hopefully others will take me more seriously as well. I have always been easygoing, and I love that, but unfortunately that quality has left me rather stagnant in the past year.
It wouldn't hurt for me to become a little more tense, uptight and competitive...what do you think? I don't think I would be the same old Annie Fanny Pantyhose though :(
Weird how we're so different...
Well, good luck on the resy! When is a good time to come visit again?

[...] Anyway this got me thinking about my goals for 2008. It has nothing to do with achieving, or making money, or picking up hot women. I want to do a better job of relaxing and letting go. That’s it. I need to be less tense, and more easy going. I need to have more fun. I must quit complaining. I need to quit trying to control everything and engineer every outcome. Sometimes your apartment fills with smoke and all you can do is laugh about it and open a window. Here’s another worthy resolution. [...]

Remember: the high in the Twin Cities tomorrow is 9 degrees. Idiots really like to drive 70mph on 94 in the middle of a snowstorm. Your family can always come visit you. Sun Country offers cheap-ass flights from MSP/HHH to SFO. Yes, it really is better on the West Coast than back in Flyover Country. That's why we moved as soon as we left the U of M.

Your fellow MN expatriate who is still freezing his ass off in Seattle.

Well said, Leah. I went through a similar realization about a year ago, and it's taken me this year to feel "myself" again. Just keep at it, and don't be surprised if i takes a while. Find the activities and people that recharge you and make sure you spend lots of time with them. And most of all, Love.

All the Best...

+1 on Ken's Frou Frou recommendation. Good stuff.

Part of being on the 'Net is being scrutinized. And, in turn, scrutinizing.

The other part is remembering that, in reality, we're all writing from the safety of our comfy chairs, behind closed doors. In this environment, everything is amplified, for better or for worse. You just have the special privilege of being well-known, so your deeds go under the microscope.

We do it for attention; we do it for fun. Never let it get to you. Remind yourself that we likely haven't written a platform used by people to send over 1,135,032 messages to their friends and associates (at the time of posting). If all else fails, feel free to reticently bask in the knowledge that you're doing something cooler than 90% of the people who bash you.
